Planar unveiled its New Runco 3Dimension Series projectors

Planar Systems unveiled its new Runco 3Dimension Series projectors. Integrating 3D visualization technology that is based on the science of how the human eye and brain process actual depth and dimension in real life, Runco has created a flawless stereoscopic video reproduction that is unlike anything else in the home or private cinema market.

Runco’s revolutionary 3D solution is based on Runco’s proprietary CSV (Constant Stereoscopic Video) architecture and was created in tandem with the years of experience Planar has with 3D stereoscopic displays for professional applications. Runco CSV is a vastly-superior approach to 3D visualization that enables seamless decoding, syncing and merging of stereo images and delivers a constant HD image to each eye without the flicker, distortion, or discomfort inherent in other approaches. Runco CSV utilizes unique passive-glasses technology, which is proven to be superior for the viewer and is usually only available in the finest public theaters. Further, Runco is the first home theater brand to license RealD’s Processing Package, which is used in Runco’s 3Dimension Processor that is paired with the company’s D-73 projector. The RealD Processing Package includes multiple proprietary technologies for the delivery and display of high-definition 3D content, for a high-quality 3D display experience in the home. Also incredibly important when choosing a 3D display, the Runco 3Dimension Series will deliver both a spectacular 2D and 3D viewing experience with zero compromise.

“The biggest buzz right now in home displays is 3D and Runco has worked to create a solution that is truly superior to anything else available in the market,” stated Planar CEO Gerry Perkel. “Unlike the mass-market 3DTV’s available today that have been met with a lukewarm response, Runco’s approach to 3D mirrors, and, to a large extent, surpasses, the experience that consumers have seen in public theaters. Using passive glasses, our large-screen solution creates an incomparable 3D experience in the home.”

Constant Stereoscopic Video reduces eye fatigue

Current 3D technology relies on the viewer wearing a pair of glasses designed to filter a separate image to each eye. The illusion of depth is created by sending a slightly different image to each eye. The left and right eyes are spaced so that everything seen is at an angle. The human brain processes and combines these two images into one complete picture with the perception of depth. Runco CSV is based on the human brain and eye physiology (called stereopsis) and mirrors it precisely to create perceived depth with a constant HD image to each eye. In contrast, time-sequential based 3D display systems, like those found on 3D televisions, flicker the image on and off at the eye, which can degrade the 3D effect and often results in eye fatigue and discomfort.

Passive glasses improve the 3D at home experience

Runco’s 3Dimension Series pair passive glasses with a design unique to Runco formulated for precise stereo separation, called PreciseLight™.  Runco’s passive glasses are not like current 3D TV glasses, which are based on “active” LCD shutter-glass technology and have inherent design challenges. Active glasses are bulky and expensive because they include electronics. And, because active glasses have LCDs in each lens, and turn black every other frame (or more frequently), active glasses need a transmitter that is synced to the frame rate. If you are out of range of the transmitter, low on batteries, have multiple TVs in a single room, or have any obstructions, the image may stutter or simply not work.

The concept for passive glasses paired with Runco CSV is very simple; project constant images to both the left eye and the right eye simultaneously into the same space, and then use Runco’s proprietary passive glasses to show the dedicated image to its intended eye without sacrificing refresh rate or introducing flicker. In addition to the standard proprietary glasses, Runco is also offering an optional upgrade of its passive glasses, which is both stylish and optimized to provide curvature without distortion, as well as prescription options, which will be available soon.

New evolution in 3D projection, all new design

The new Runco 3Dimension Series D-73d projector is based on an evolution of Runco’s award-winning lampless LED technology. Runco’s InfiniLight™ boasts a significant reduction in power consumption, a mercury-free illumination system, and InstantOn™, which instantly produces an image and eliminates the need to put the projector in standby mode. These breakthroughs combine to create an energy-efficient solution with high reliability.

Beyond light-source innovation, Runco’s LED-based projectors produce the largest color gamut ever available in front projection; achieving and exceeding the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI) standards. The D-73d offers Runco’s Personal Color Equalizer™ (PCE), which enables owners to create color settings from the largest pallet ever available and project images exactly to their preferences. Further, the D-73d outputs more perceived brightness than other 3D solutions because of Runco’s proprietary LED technology and its ability to create exceptional chromaticity. Perceived brightness is a function of not only luminance, but also chromaticity and more saturated colors are perceived as brighter than pastel versions at the same measured brightness levels. In other words, the D-73d is 60-percent brighter than the specifications would indicate and can be used in similar environments and in similar screen dimensions as other projectors that specify significantly higher brightness. The combination of colors, perceived brightness and performance enable the Runco D-73d to set a previously unseen standard on the 3D and 2D viewing experience to deliver flawless video at home.

Gilman Claims FLW Walleye Tour Championship Title on Leech Lake

Pro Chris Gilman of Chisago City, Minn., caught two walleyes weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces Saturday to win the 2010 FLW Walleye Tour Championship earning $42,676. Gilman had a four-day catch of 16 walleyes weighing 42-15.

“I really can’t believe it. It has been 20 years,” said Gilman, the 2009 Angler of the Year. “I didn’t think that I had it. My over [26 inches or larger] was not a giant and Terry’s fish was much fatter. Coming in short of the limit usually does not work.”

“I was rigging with redtail chubs, nothing really fancy, basically a 1-1/2-ounce sinker a six-foot Suffix leader and a minnow,” said Gilman. “Watching my locator was real important as I did not fish very much unless I saw the right marks. I have a Lowrance HDS and it was real easy to see which points had boulders on them and I fished a lot of those points with boulders. I pretty much knew if I was going to get one or not by looking at my locator.”

“I caught my large fish on a spot that I had never fished before and I just trusted my locator to tell me where to fish was the biggest difference,” continued Gilman. “I went to my number two spot and I caught four fish and I cleaned it. I caught every one that was there, and I went to this new spot and whacked the 27-incher and that was the difference.”

Rounding out the top-10 pros were:

2nd:Terence Filkins, Lake City, Minn., 12 walleyes, 41-14, $5,000

3rd:Pat Byle, Colgate, Wis., 13 walleyes, 40-0, $12,000

4th:Paul Meleen, Isle, Minn., 11 walleyes, 38-15, $8,303

5th:National Guard pro Mark Courts, Harris, Minn., 16 walleyes, 31-15, $5,500

6th:Scott Steil, Richmond, Minn., 16 walleyes, 30-7, $3,750

7th:Dean Arnoldussen, Appleton, Wis., 13 walleyes, 27-1, $3,669

8th:Brian Brosdahl, Max, Minn., 14 walleyes, 25-3, $3,035

9th:Don Loch, Iron Mountain, Mich., 10 walleyes, 20-0, $1,000

10th:Kevin Merrill, Pierre, S.D., seven walleyes, 18-7, $750

Overall there were 13 walleyes weighing 40 pounds, 4 ounces caught by seven boats Saturday. The catch did not include any four-walleye limits.

Matt Hiller of Grand Rapids, Mich., took home the Co-angler title on Friday earning $6,523 and making him the first two-time co-angler champion in FLW Walleye Tour history. Hiller weighed in 14 walleyes weighing 33-11 over the three days of competition. Hiller fished with pros Merrill on day one, Loch on day two and Gilman on day three.

Rounding out the top-10 co-anglers were:

2nd:Darrell Martin, Forest Lake, Minn., 12 walleyes, 31-13, $2,048

3rd:Jason Anderson, West Fargo, N.D., 14 walleyes, 31-11, $2,518

4th:Cal Van Cleve, Wilmot, S.D., 10 walleyes, 28-11, $2,107

5th:Peggy Severson, Fort Pierre, S.D., 13 walleyes, 28-11, $1,300

6th:Todd Dankert, Anoka, Minn., 11 walleyes, 27-1, $650

7th:Ted Kaminski, Saint Anthony, Minn., 11 walleyes, 26-0, $896

8th:Larry Oleson, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., 10 walleyes, 22-6, $685

9th:Kyle Schuchard, Essex, Ont., 12 walleyes, 21-6, $605

10th:Bryan Bayerkohler, Eagan, Minn., nine walleyes, 18-15, $250

The National Guard announced prior to the final weigh-in that they will serve as title sponsor for the Walleye Tour in 2011. The involvement of the National Guard with the Walleye Tour will allow for more appreciation tournaments in conjunction with tour events offering positive opportunities for soldiers, veterans and families. These events present an avenue to display the appreciation everyone should have for those that serve our country.

In FLW Walleye Tour competition, pros and co-anglers are randomly paired each day and fish for a combined boat weight.

Eli, Shaq, Venus, Apolo Headline Greatest All-Star Line-Up in Oreo Double Stuf Racing League History

They’ve won trophies, medals and rings.  Now four of the world’s greatest athletes – football champ Eli Manning, basketball superstar Shaquille O’Neal, tennis icon Venus Williams and gold medal-winning speed skater Apolo Ohno – team up for a power play of twisting, licking and dunking in the newest Oreo Double Stuf  Racing League (DSRL) campaign.

In what insiders at Oreo are calling “the best ad yet,” Shaquille and Apolo join DSRL veterans Eli and Venus to challenge a mysterious “hooded menace” who threatens to overtake the league.  In the first :30 spot, premiering Sept. 20, Eli assembles a dream team of athletes to fend off the lick racing nemesis.  Viewers may speculate about the identity of the shadowy adversary who confronts the heroes of “Team DSRL,” but the figure (another notable celebrity) will not be revealed until January 2011.

The DSRL celebrates the fun of bringing friends and families together in an exciting head-to-head competition to see who can twist, lick, dunk an Oreo Double Stuf cookie and drink a glass of milk the fastest.

“In Team DSRL we’ve assembled the most unique collaboration of world-class athletic talent I’ve ever seen,” said Eli Manning, who helped launch the campaign in 2008.  “We may excel in different sports but when united behind an Oreo Double Stuf cookie and a glass of milk, we are a lick racing force to be reckoned with.”

Shaquille O’Neal, whose colorful nicknames have included “The Diesel” and “The Big Aristotle,” may add “The Big Dunker” to his alias list.

“People don’t realize how much precision, speed and concentration it takes to win a lick race,” Shaq said.  “You may have seen me take down a backboard or two in my time, but I guarantee no shattered glass when I dunk my Double Stuf Oreo Heads or Tails.”

New Oreo Cookie a Slam Dunk

The Team DSRL ad campaign also launches the new Double Stuf Oreo Heads or Tails cookie.  The Double Stuf Oreo Heads or Tails cookie features a chocolate wafer on one side and a vanilla wafer on the other, with the classic double creme in between.  Chocolate and vanilla lovers in every family can now enjoy both the delicious Golden Oreo and classic chocolate flavor at the same time. The new variety is now available on store shelves nationwide.

The Hall of Fame-Worthy DSRL League

For more DSRL action, visit Oreo’s Facebook Fan Page at Facebook.com/Oreo to see behind-the-scenes videos from the making of the Team DSRL ad, watch sneak previews and get up-to-the-minute Oreo product news. The “Create Your Own Team” tab allows fans to create their own Team DSRL, by uploading photos of their face and their friends’ faces to the bodies of the Team DSRL athletes. Customized team photos, including a personalized team name, can be posted to the fan’s Facebook profile to share with friends. Finally, 10 lucky DSRL fans have the chance to meet the real Team DSRL in person by playing the new interactive “Twist It” game available now at Facebook.com/Oreo.

The Oreo Double Stuf Racing League officially launched in January 2008. To compete in a DSRL lick race, each person twists their cookie open and licks off all the creme.  Then, each person shows their cookie to their opponent, dunks it, eats it and drinks the glass of milk.  The first to finish twisting, licking and dunking wins!
