DISH Network Launches Local HD Channels in 14 Markets, Beginning August 14

DISH Network has launched local high-definition channels in 14 new markets on August 14. DISH Network claims that with the new additions, the satcaster is offering local high definition channels in 170 markets covering more than 96 percent of U.S. TV households.

DISH Network subscribers in the following markets receive local HD channels starting on August 18:

Augusta, Ga.
Davenport, Iowa
Evansville, Ind.
Monroe, La.
Paducah, Ky.
Rochester, Minn.
San Angelo, Texas
Shreveport, La.
Wichita, Kan. and
Wilmington, N.C.

DISH Network will also launch local HD programming in

Bangor, Maine
Macon, Ga.
Rochester, N.Y. and
Traverse City, Mich.

Dave Shull, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network said “DISH Network is proud to offer the most HD local coverage in America. We continue to expand our local HD channel service because we know how important it is to our customers to watch sports, movies and their favorite primetime shows in high definition.”

DirecTV Launches Local HD Channels in Sherman, Texas-Ada, Oklahoma

DirecTV’s local high-definition channels launched in Sherman, Texas-Ada, Oklahoma market area. DirecTV delivers local HD channels in 138 markets, representing more than 92 percent of U.S. TV households. Following are the local HD channels available:

DirecTV has announced the launch of local high-definition programming to its subscribers in the Beaumont-Port Arthur, Texas on April 8. DirecTV now offers local HD broadcast channels in 121 cities, representing more than 88 percent of U.S. TV households. Following networks are available in HD:

KBTV/FOX

DirecTV has launched local Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in high-definition in four new markets. DirecTV has stated that the PBS HD will be added in many new markets in this year. The satcaster has launched PBS HD in 34 markets. DirecTV has added PBS in following markets:

Dish Network has launched local high-definition channels in seven markets. Dish Network has come up with local HD channels as DirecTV has been aggressively adding local HD in many markets. Following are the markets in which local HD channels are offered:

DirecTV has started offering local HD programming to customers in the Syracuse, N.Y. designated market area from Sept. 17. WSYR/ABC, WTVH/CBS, WSYT/FOX WSTM/NBC and WNYS/MNT are the networks available in this area. DirecTV now offers local HD broadcast channels in 91 cities, representing 81 percent of U.S. TV households.

DirecTV started its high-definition programming expansion during August, after the satcasters new satellite DIRECTV 11 reached the orbit successfully during March this year. DirecTV launched 30 new HD channels in August and also started its local HD programming delivery. Now, the satcaster is offering local HD programming to customers in the Little Rock-Pine Bluff, Ark. designated market area. Comcast Launches Big Ten Network on Aug.15

Comcast has launched Big Ten Network in high-definition on 15th August and the sports network will be added in HD in areas where the cable operator offers HD programming service. Comcast subscribers with Digital Cable can watch four additional Big Ten Network feeds on channels 692 through 695, Big Ten Network broadcast live coverage of more than one game simultaneously.
