Comcast has come up with The Weather Channel in high-definition for the subscribers in Houston, Texas. Dish Network to Launch New HD Channels in 2009

Dish Network will expand its high-definition offering in 2009 with the help of the new satellite Ciel II. This satellite was launched by Canadian satellite company The Ciel Satellite on Dec.10 from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Dish Network is expected to utilize the services of the satellite to increase the bandwidth and deliver more HD channels. Dish has launched AMC 14 this year and the satellite has failed to reach the orbit. The satcaster will have a target to launch at least 30 to 40 HD channels to compete with DirecTV.

Comcast Launches TBS HD In West Lafayette, IN

Comcast has announced the launch of TBS in high-definition in West Lafayette, IN on Sept. 30. Comcast is scheduled to launch TBS in HD by end of October, but launched earlier and delivered opening round playoff game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies in HD. Atlanta based operator has exclusive rights to broadcast the first round of MLB playoffs in standard and high-definition.

DirecTV Launches Local HD Programming in Little Rock-Pine Bluff, Arkansas

DirecTV started its high-definition programming expansion during August, after the satcasters new satellite DIRECTV 11 reached the orbit successfully during March this year. DirecTV launched 30 new HD channels in August and also started its local HD programming delivery. Now, the satcaster is offering local HD programming to customers in the Little Rock-Pine Bluff, Ark. designated market area. DirecTV started launching new national and local high-definition channels after its new satellite DIRECTV 11 was launched. Now DirecTV is now offering local HD programming to customers in the Johnstown-Altoona, Pa. designated market area. WTAJ/CBS and WJAC/NBC are the new broadcast networks available in HD. DirecTV also have plans to provide many new HD stations as they become available. The satcaster now offers local HD broadcast channels in 82 cities, representing more than 77 percent of U.S. TV households.

DirecTV is to continue with its expansion of HD programming and planning to add 39 more HD local channel markets by the end of 2008. National Geographic and NewsGator Technologies partner to create, host and track a series of dynamic widgets, including an interactive puzzle widget that transforms photographs into a digital jigsaw puzzle that users spend, on average, several minutes assembling. Dayton Daily News and Tampa Bay Online have already picked up the puzzle widgets. National Geographic widgets will include OurShot, a widget in which photo editors highlight recent exceptional work, and YourShot, through which end users can contribute photos in the hopes of being featured in the magazine.
