Comcast Annoucnes The Launch Of ‘Xfinity WiFi’ in Greater Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware Areas

Comcast has announced the the launch of Xfinity WiFi to its subscribers in Greater Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware. Comcast’s Xfinity WiFi provides Xfinity Internet customers with the ability to access thousands of outdoor and indoor WiFi hotspots for no additional fee.

Xfinity WiFi hotspots have been launched throughout the greater Philadelphia area and its suburbs, in New Jersey towns from Union to Cape May and in northern Delaware. Hotspots are located in areas where customers spend time working, commuting, relaxing, shopping and socializing and include: SEPTA’s Suburban and Market East Stations, the train platforms along the Paoli/Lansdale Line (formerly R5) and the Manayunk/Norristown Line (formerly R6), the Wells Fargo Center and the South Street shopping district, to name just a few. Hotspots are also located in the suburbs of Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware and Chester Counties.

In New Jersey, Xfinity WiFi hotspots are located in places including: Berkeley Heights, Livingston, Long Branch, Montclair, New Brunswick, Perth Amboy, Red Bank, Rumson, Summit and Trenton, as well as numerous shore towns. WiFi access has been available to N.J. Transit passengers in northern New Jersey since a trial started more than a year ago. Additional hotspots have also launched in and around Wilmington, Delaware.

Today’s announcement expands on the number of hotspots Xfinity Internet customers can access. Earlier this year, Comcast announced a roaming agreement with Cablevision and Time Warner Cable, whereby Xfinity Internet customers can also enjoy thousands of Xfinity WiFi hotspots in the Greater New York Tri-State area, also for no additional fee. Comcast continues to enhance its entertainment and communications products and services across multiple platforms in part by extending mobile access to customers to help them enjoy their Xfinity services remotely. For example, Comcast has begun to offer Xfinity Internet 2go wireless service in about ten major markets, online video is accessible via XfinityTV.com and we have either launched or announced that we plan to launch a variety of apps for various smart phones and the iPad.

Xfinity Internet offers some of the fastest Internet speeds in the nation including our fastest speed tier, Extreme 50, which offers speeds up to 50 Mbps, and also a variety of other residential service tiers designed to meet different customer needs. Xfinity Internet also includes the Norton™ Security Suite (a $160 value), 2 GB of Secure Backup & Share storage, the Comcast Toolbar with enhanced anti-spyware and anti-phishing technology and, now, Xfinity WiFi. Comcast Launches 50 Mbps High-Speed Internet Service in Sacramento

Comcast has completed the launch of high-speed internet in California with the rollout of the service in the Sacramento area. Comcast has enhanced broadband to wideband with the deployment of next-generation DOCSIS 3.0 in Sacramento.

Comcast has already deployed wideband in the San Francisco Bay Area and several portions of the Central Valley, including Davis, Roseville and Placerville.

Comcast has introduced a new echelon of Internet speed tiers, which will redefine the customer experience online and create a platform for Internet innovation in the years ahead with the launch of wideband.

Comcast now offers some of the fastest speeds available in Central California, including the Extreme 50 tier with download speeds of up to 50 Mbps. Wideband also enables Comcast to double speeds for the majority of existing high-speed Internet customers.

Comcast’s new internet services is available to residential homes and businesses in all regions of Sacramento County, including: Antelope, Carmichael, Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Elverta, Fair Oaks, Folsom, Galt, Gold River, Mather, North Highlands, Orangevale, Rancho Cordova, Rio Linda and Sacramento starting April 12.

Comcast has launched the new 50 Mbps premium speed tier to its residential and business customers. The new service is ideal for households or businesses simultaneously using several computers or Internet-connected devices, while also appealing to those who simply want some of the fastest speeds available:

New Residential Tier

Extreme 50, offers up to 50 Mbps of downstream speed and up to 10 Mbps of upstream speed at $99.95 a month.

With Extreme 50, Comcast customers will be able to download a high-definition movie (6 GB) in about 16 minutes, a standard-definition movie (2 GB) in about five minutes and a standard-definition TV show (300 MB) in a matter of seconds. Customers with Extreme 50 also will be able to download digital photos, songs and games faster than ever.

In addition to the new Extreme 50 speed tier, wideband is also enabling Comcast to boost speeds for most of its existing residential customers. Performance customers will benefit from increases in downstream and upstream speeds, offering up to 12 Mbps and 2 Mbps, respectively. Plus, with PowerBoost technology, customers are able to enjoy even faster speeds to download and upload files such as videos, games, music and photos.

New Business Class Tiers

Business customers will also benefit from wideband with increased efficiency and productivity. Customers can sign up for the Deluxe 50 Mbps / 10 Mbps tier for $189.95 a month, which includes a full suite of features and support. As part of their service, Comcast Business Class customers receive Microsoft Communication Services, providing corporate class e-mail, calendaring and document sharing, as well as additional benefits such as firewall protection, static IP addresses, multiple e-mail addresses and business class 24/7 customer support. A new Premium tier will also be introduced, offering speeds up to 22 Mbps / 5 Mbps for $99.95 a month.

Comcast has now rolled out the new wideband technology to nearly 80 percent of its footprint across the nation, which means that more than 40 million homes and businesses can now enjoy one of the fastest Internet services in the country.

Comcast Launches ESPNU in Atlanta

Comcast has launched the sports network ESPNU on channel 298 in Atlanta. The leading cable operator is upgrading its network in Atlanta and added ESPNU to its Digital Classic Subscribers. Knoxville and Connecticut subscribers are also delivered with the college sports network.

ESPNU is a 24-hour television network focused college sports and will feature about 550 live events, mostly D-1 football and men’s/women’s basketball and college sports championships that includes 22 NCAA championships.

Comcast has announced that it has installed its advanced fiber-optic network at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel that will enable visitors to access latest 2009 U.S. Senior Open Championship News.

Comcast Launches 50 Mbps Internet service in the Bay Area

Comcast has launched 50 Mbps high-speed internet service in the Bay Area. The cable operator has announced this and stated that this was possible with the help of DOCSIS 3.0 technology. This service will deliver 50 megabits per second for downloads and up to 10 megabits per second for uploads to its subscribers. This high-speed internet service is offered to residential subscribers and will be expanded to San Jose and Silicon Valley, much of Contra Costa County and the Tri-Valley, and the Monterey area. Comcast is expected to deliver the service to business subscribers in a week’s time.

Bryan Byrd, director of communications for Comcast California said “Consumers have an unquenchable thirst for entertainment, communications and information and wideband will super-charge their Internet experience by providing even faster access to anything they want online, this is only a preview of even faster speeds to come – DOCSIS 3.0 gives Comcast the capability to deliver speeds in excess of 150 Mbps in the future.”
