Cablevision To Deliver 15 HD Channels in August

Cablevision Systems Corp has announced that the cable operator will launch 15 new high-definition channels in July. Cablevision announcement came at the right time as DirecTV is to start its HD expansion and will deliver 50 or more HD channels and other operators like Time Warner, Verizon FiOS are delivering more HD channels.

Cablevision has announced that the new HD channels will be added starting from the end of July (probably 28th) and will be available to iO TV digital cable customers at no additional cost from August 1. Cablevision will add all the new HD channels to its 1.1 million customers who have at least one high-definition TV and HD-enabled set-top box. Including these channels Cablevision’s high definition lineup will be 60 HD channels. Cablevision Systems Corp has not revealed all the 15 HD channels to be launched but will include following HD channels :

AMC

Animal Planet

Discovery Channel

FOX News Channel

FX

Hallmark Movie Channel

Nickelodeon

The Weather Channel

Travel Channel and

WE TV

“With our nation poised to celebrate the holiday that marks our freedom, we thought it was a perfect time to announce even more free HD for our iO TV digital cable customers,” said John Trierweiler, Cablevision senior vice president of product management, in a statement. “Free HD has become an important competitive differentiator of our digital-cable service, and with these additions iO TV customers will have access to
60 of the best HD channels at no additional cost, including all of the HD games of all nine New York-area professional sports teams.”
